The BBC World Service is an international multimedia broadcaster with a global weekly audience of 192 million people, delivering a wide range of language and regional services on radio, TV, online and via wireless handheld devices.
Last year we launched Global Newsbeat – new radio bulletins with a style and agenda that will appeal to young listeners, along with a digital offer to engage them. The aim is to introduce a new audience to the World Service. We are now expanding to introduce an Indonesian version, and are looking to recruit one bilingual journalist (Indonesian/English) to work on this exciting new project.
Shift work will be required which will include nights, weekends and public holidays.
Role Responsibility
In this role, you will be required to write and produce news with a mixed agenda ranging from international events to sport and entertainment in Indonesian and English. You’ll produce a digital offer to support and expand on the radio bulletins. Working closely as part of a team, you’ll ensure content is shared across the various versions of Global Newsbeat and with other parts of BBC News. This position will also need you to support Business Development in building a close relationship with partner radio stations.
The Ideal Candidate
Fluency in spoken and written Indonesian as first or equivalent language is essential to this role. Together with this, we need you to be fluent in, and have comprehension of, written and spoken English. You’ll have significant experience or training as a journalist, coupled with the ability to write creatively in an engaging manner. Excellent knowledge of International affairs, as well as a strong understanding of a wide range of issues of interest to young audiences, is also essential to this role.
